Introducing... The Janet Collection

As a professional appreciative of fashion, it can sometimes get daunting to obtain work wear that is stylish and different but at the same time maintains the intended level of professionalism. I really have a hard time picking work wear that speaks distinctly of my style and is conducive for my environment.

For my very first local talent feature, I would like to introduce the graceful Janet Collection by talented designer Wambui Mukenyi. I discovered her work regrettably late last year but have not stopped ogling at how different her work is. From tribal print khanga, to kitenge, there is no limitation to what her talent can design.

For this collection, Wambui addresses the working class woman looking to be different in her dressing, as well as to all the women who appreciate lady like dressing whether in formal or informal settings. This particular collection was a collaborated effort with Citizen TV news anchor Janet Mbugua, and offers stylish wear that is impeccably professional, timeless and effortlessly chic. The colours within the collection are subtle and adaptable for any work environment, a definite recommendation for those like me who seek to add colour to their work wear.

If I were to pick a favourite feature of the Janet Collection it would be in its fitting. These dresses have a simple yet elegant cut designed to fit and embrace the female curves. I am especially appreciative of how the designer highlights the waist, in a ruffle here, lapels there, to give every woman the confidence of that ideal curve.

The full range of the Janet Collection will comprise 20 different pieces and is expected to be out by end of February this year. It is definitely something to look forward to.

Meanwhile For those interested to purchase, you can contact the designer via info@wambuimukenyi.com. More of Wambui Mukenyi's pieces are available on her site here.

Thank you for your readership and support. As always, I appreciate feedback through the comments section below.

Nice Weekend Everyone.

Love, S.S!!

Guy Code

I have a lot of appreciation for  mens' fashion. The well done pieces are simple, structured and still provide high level elegance. Granted, I do not know much about mens' fashion but I do believe the age old statement as fact: A man is judged by his watch, his belt, and his shoes.

Florals: Garden Couture

There is something just so utterly refreshing about floral apparel. To me they symbolize the calm blossom, fresh rejuvenation and splendor of a stroll through a perfectly kept manicured garden.

2012 Haul Resolutions

Its still early in the year, the first Wednesday and thus appropriate a time to write about my new year's resolution. I think.

I tend to shop more on impulse-randomly, and guiltily on fast fashion items that excite me in the spur of the moment- than I do for classic items. For 2012, I decided to challenge myself and try exercise restrain in my  shopping. To this end I created a list of six items I really want for now, which are classic, versatile and timeless.

'Tis the Season...to be Partying!

My Friend Rynah requested I do a post on what to wear for end of year office parties, and I have to agree with her on the relevance of the subject. With the holidays here come endless invitations to end of year office parties. For many, the end of year parties come with a strain in thought on what to wear; understandably so. This is a party with your peers from the office with whom you may often go all out, let loose, boogie atop of tables and have a jolly ol' time. It is also the party with the company boss(es) whose opinion of character you want to keep positively scaled, and who have possibly, your future growth in their hands.
For this festive season, some of my go to items for the office parties are:

#1: Dressy Jumpsuits.

Favored by a few, I find dressy jumpsuits super ideal for this particular occasion. They speak casual fun and sexy, while still maintaining one's elegance and composure. I love them for the fact that depending on the tailoring, jumpsuits are easy to adopt for various body frames. For such an occasion, I would stick to monochrome jumpsuits preferably in neutrals(grey, black, whites). Being pear shaped, I would prefer wide legged suits with an accentuated waist. The essence to a jumpsuit as a perfect item of the night lies in being able to match them with select statement accessories: such as a masterpiece necklace or bracelets accompanied by an oversize envelope clutch, with sexy platform shoes for the complete ensemble.

In Style Travels

Traveling in style

With the holidays comes lots of travels. Holidays are basically time to take breaks from school, visit relatives in the country, or vacation at some luxe place. There is almost nothing glamorous about traveling and in fact, most people do not think twice about their items of clothing. For the majority it is all about comfort, which means p.j pants and sweatshirts- jeans and tees for those who will make an effort.

In spite of the dreadful long hours of travel, travel style can still be achieved by wearing effortlessly chic and stylish items that do not scream trying- to- hard. Still, the foundation of travel wear has to be maintained at all times- comfort.  For this piece we look at some of the chic ways to hit the roads without losing your sense of style.

Oversize Knits

Hello! its been a while since I last wrote here...but I'm back :-D

First let me say, Hello December! the 'tis the season to be jolly! despite the wet weather in my city (and its evil sister traffic) the holiday spirit is alive!

One of the December staple wears is knit sweaters and knits, ideally because the festivities happen in winter in the north.Well, given the wet gloomy condition of the tropics, knits are ideal to stay comfy, warm, and fuzzy, while maintaining high street chic.

Currently Craving...

Wedges!!
Currently oogling at these Zahara pair from Shoe Dazzle

Happy Weekend Everyone!! Its grey gloomy and rainy outside and Christmas is juuust around the corner. I believe I have been a good girl and thus Santa, this is what I want for Christmas :-) LoL!-Digress.

There is something ultra flattering about wedge shoes. whether you are tall, petite short, curvy, weges just have a way of bringing out the best in every woman. These shoes are so versatile and can be worn to work, for lunch and dinner dates, to the club, the beach and as well, for errand runs. Another thing I love about wedges is their flat base, which means the pressure on the feet is evenly distributed making them convinient for all day, anyday wear.

Its all about The Blouse

A quintessence of all things female, the blouse is the ultimate go to item in one's closet for when you wish to be all femme and womanly. It is a versatile piece that can be worn across different occasions  to present different moods and expressions: From the formal setting of the workplace, a lounge or bar, dinner, shopping, exhibition and gallery viewing, a blouse is simply a must have for every girl's closet.
Recently, I have come to appreciate the blouse in my closet and I am keen on stacking up on these simple yet chic item of wear. I wasn't always a girly- girl and I think my sub conscious is compensating for lost 'girl-time' :o. Currently, I am into the ruffle top and neck tie blouses for the office, they are so elegant and come off sophisticated!

My Cravings Basket

This section contains the items of wear I am currently ogling over.

Dorothy Perkins pants

The flare is BACK! And oh, how I cannot wait to get me some of these. I first spotted the trends come back early in April during the Tory Burch summer (I think)collection of 2011. These pants give off an air of elegance and sophistication that few apparel match.

Here's to the Weekend

Its Friday! HOORAY!!

If you are like me who wakes up before dawn through the week to go to work/school, Friday is always a day welcome. Weekends are a chance to rejuvenate catch up up on some sleep ;), perhaps meet up with friends for some chat and sips, laze with someone special, the list is endless.

After a week of wearing formal outfits, i try to do casual ensembles for the weekend. here are some of my weekend looks:

Outfit #1: The Smart Casual Look
This is my dress down Friday look to the office. I feel like it is a neat transitioning look into the weekend and is appropriate for a drink up with friends after work or a simple catch up session in the bar. I tend to dress up in a cute blouse and skinny's. The blouse makes the outfit more of feminine while retaining the formals of Friday. Add on booties to complete the serious yet ready to hit the club look.

Outfit #2: Sassy Girl Out in Town
This look is my Saturday look. it is comfortable while still retaining femininity through the soft material and floral print. Paired with leggings and coloured flats for for a casual and relaxed look yet very girly, it is the ideal for shopping, lunch with girlfriends, cozy lunch date with Mr. Man among others. I have recently taken to Scarves as the main outfit accessories. A scarf is the ultimate feminine piece in an outfit and with those you seldom go wrong.

Outfit #3: Tomboy
For days when you simply refuse to dress up, the boyfriend jeans with a fitting knit top are best. This look is for those errand Saturdays when you may not afford to keep it together. Works well for catching the Saturday games too! the scarves and pretty flats again, help you retain a touch of the girly side in the man ensemble.

Have a Great Weekend!!
